On Pause

So, I was all set to write about my rides on Monday and last night and get it posted today but then this happened on my way to work this morning.

Unlike the conga line that SprinklerBandits was in I was the middle car. I hit the car ahead of me when I put my foot on the brakes and nothing happened. It was so slick that I might as well have been  in a skating rink and it was a good thump but not horrible impact but then the car behind me slammed into me with enough force to push me past the car in front of me and sideways so that it looked like the car I hit T-boned me.

It was a typical MN car accident with all three people involved apologizing and being sweet and caring about it. The cop also had a great sense of humor and when he almost wiped out on the slippery spot, as he was picking up pieces of my car, he looked right at me, pointed at the spot, and with a straight face said "It's kind of slippery right there". It made me crack up anyway.

Unfortunately my roommate and I both think they may total my car. I just got it about a year ago and it's a newer model with very few miles so it really sucks. Plus I love it. The good thing is that it kept me safe. I'm slightly sore but not too bad, I hurt more after trying to trailer load Katai actually...

Black ice sucks.

  1. Aww, I'm sorry that happened. If it's any consolation, when my truck was new I hit a deer on the highways and it was almost a total write off. I was in the same boat as you where I wouldn't have been able to buy anything as good for the amount a replacement was worth, so asked nicely for insurance to fix it, and they said yes. Good luck.

    1. Thank you T :) I'm really hoping that they're able to fix it for me or that it's at least safe enough to drive that it can serve as transportation to work for a few months while I figure out another option.

    1. Me too! So far my insurance has been amazing to deal with, the guy who hit me's insurance...not so much.

  3. I HATE black ice! We've had a lot of accidents already due to it! I'm glad that you weren't hurt.

    1. Me too! The cops were telling us about the multiple accidents they had already seen that day and the day before. I'm really glad it's supposed to be warmer next week so that hopefully the roads will clear up.

  5. Car accidents are the worst! What crappy luck. I hope you can get the situation sorted and that your insurance company is helpful!

    1. Yeah, less than a mile and I would have been safe at work. Luckily my insurance company has been amazing so far.

  7. What a bummer! Pretty much nothing you can do when you hit black ice though! Hopefully you're back on the road in no time.

    1. Thank you!! I think that's what made me the most sad. It's not only a car I love but my freedom to do things including going to the barn. I think we're figuring it out though so that's good!

  9. Oh no! Hope you aren't too hurt... please make sure to get physio if your doc recommends it. This is spoken as someone who had a very serious car accident and didn't have physio and is now a crippled old person.

    1. Thank you :) I did end up going to Urgent Care yesterday and was given some meds and stretching exercises. I'm going to give it a week or so and if I'm still sore or feel off I'm going to go in again. Right now my whole spine feels weird but the doc said it was because my muscles are pulling my neck straight instead of allowing it to be in it's natural curve. I am really hoping I feel mostly better tomorrow though.

PS of Sweden Flying Change Bridle Review

I've been doing my seasonal "favorites" posts but haven't had much to review recently since I haven't been purchasing much. Thanks to saving up some money I was able to spend a bit more on presents (for everyone including myself) this Christmas and finally got the PS of Sweden bridle that's been on my list for over a year.

Based on the information I had I decided to order the pony sized bridle. I had messaged asking for the bridle size but never heard back. I really should have messaged again before ordering as you're about to see.

Unfortunately when the bridle arrived and I compared it with a bridle I had at home that fit Katai I was pretty sure it was going to be too small. I brought it out to the barn, tried it on her and sure enough it was way too small. Not even close enough to be able to punch extra holes. So, I brought it back home and got it packaged up to return.

After a couple of emails back and forth and many days later (I shipped it back on 12…

They Came! and Other Updates

I mentioned awhile back that I'd ordered a couple of Mattes pads, one for schooling and one for show, and that they hadn't shown up quite in time for my last show of the year. Then they were scheduled to arrive while I was in NY so I had to have them re-delivered when I got back. They showed up last week but I've been so distracted by farrier related things that I haven't shared yet.

I like them so much!! The dark grey one with the logo is for schooling/clinics etc. The light grey one is for shows. It honestly is a bit flashier than I expected but I think in the show ring it will be ok. I also LOVE the color of both of them :)

I'm really happy with both of them. The only thing I'm not happy about is that they're both longer from spine to girth loop than my other Mattes euro fit pad. I'm hoping that after they got washed a few times they'll shrink a bit but otherwise they'll work, they're just longer than I'd prefer.
Along with my new far…

Long Time, No Post

Last week was nuts. Opening a new site like that just is, especially when you’ve got 25+ brand new employees being trained in a site that is still being moved into. Add to that the fact that I had some short nights, early mornings, and I didn’t sleep that well and I’m still exhausted even after a nice quiet weekend. Pretty much the only thing I did outside of relaxing at home was grocery shopping and going to the barn.

I made it out both Saturday and Sunday and Katai was so good! On Saturday I rode (after lunging :) and just focused on forward, stretching, and lots of bending and flexion. I did a bit of lateral work but otherwise just kept it simple at walk, trot, and canter. Her canter, though, was seriously the best it’s been. I guess the two weeks off was a good break for her! She was really moving forward rather than up into the transitions and was stretchy and carrying herself. Her back felt great and solidly strong and she was really through rather than just running with he…
