Updates and Down Time

We're still alive and things are swinging right along. Basically just more of the same from before actually which is good since the improvement is continuing right along.

I've been quiet for a few reasons. One is that my seasonal depression has been worse this year. I'm going to be getting myself a sun lamp since the vitamin D just doesn't seem to be cutting it anymore. That combined with the fact that I just don't have much to write about from a riding standpoint has meant that I just haven't been at all motivated to blog. Worse, it's been depressing to sit down to type a blog and just have all the same stuff to share. I also spent last week in WA for work. FLSA regulation changes are no joke people ;) I had a great trip and it was beautiful there. It increased my interest in finding a way to move out there!

After awhile writing about lessons (even though they've been amazing), training rides (which have mostly been amazing), and not much else gets old. I don't have a good place to ride outside and this weekend we're supposed to be getting our first winter storm. I still don't have a trailer so I can't sign up for any clinics or shows and since I live in the north our show season is completely done.

Not trying to depress anyone, it's just that I'm sort of stuck right now. This is ok with me, actually I think it's really good. I'm making so much progress with Jane that it's sort of like winter bootcamp :) It's mainly just that it's not very exciting to write about or probably to read about.

I do have a few things that I have in mind for the winter.

One of those is that Suzanne will be back in town teaching a couple of clinics at my previous barn over the winter. I think it would be a good, positive trip for Katai so I'm going to plan on that.

I also plan to do a good amount of shopping for Christmas and will be sharing my Christmas "hauls" as I get them, or as I "open" them.

Also, I'll be posting a year end, recap and goals for next year.

Otherwise though, for the time being I'm going to be taking a little blogging hiatus. It's just tough to have content to share that I'm excited about. My goal is to really work hard this winter and then do many shows/events next year to help Katai get comfortable with it. That will be way more interesting for everyone and I'll have more content to share.

In the meantime I've been posting more to Instagram so if you want to keep up with pony adventures feel free to follow me there @kataipony https://www.instagram.com/kataipony/

  1. I just want to say, first of all, that you are truly one of my favorite blogs. I am selfishly sad that you're taking a break, but also I completely understand.

When I moved to Indiana and got a job in a basement (after growing up on the eastern border of Central time, then moving to the western border of Eastern time, where the sun doesn't come up til after 8am in the winter), I got Seasonal Affectivity Disorder SO BAD. Something as simple as my husband telling me someone on my fantasy football team got injured left me crying in a heap while cleaning stalls (true story). And I was so unhinged, my boss made me take a week off work.

For me, Vitamin D was a godsend, though I had to play with the dosage to find what worked. The light, for me, is more of an energy level thing. It makes me feel like I've had coffee before I've had coffee. I also put Flux on my phone and computer so blue light gets filtered out when the sun's down. Bottom line is, I totally understand what you're going through, and everyone is different. I hope you find what works for you, and you can always reach out to me via email if you need to talk. Spam account is jalean one one at gmail dot com. Hugs.

    1. Thank you so much Jen, that means so much especially since yours is one of my favorite blogs :) I'm hoping that I'll get this figured out and be back sooner rather than later but yeah, it's been tough.

Yeah, today I was going out to see friends and get some coffee and when I had trouble finding parking I was early in tears. It sucks :/

Great feedback on the sun lamp and Flux! I'm going to look into Flux and maybe try playing around more with my Vitamin D. What worked last year maybe just isn't working this year. Thank you so much for the email address and hugs :) I'll reach out if/when I need to commiserate or ask more about what worked for you.

  2. I will miss you and I enjoy reading your lesson recaps (probably because our horses are similar). Give updates when you can.

  3. I'm struggling this year as well, it's been exceptionally dark and dreary out and I work indoors also. I'm going to borrow a few of Jen's tips! Enjoy your blogging break, but selfishly can I request that you please update when you can, your blog is one of my favorites :)

    1. Yeah, it makes it so tough to be motivated! I feel like I struggle every year but this year in particular has been rough. I'll do that and that's so amazingly nice of you. I means a lot since yours is one of my favorites as well :)

  4. I'm sure you've tried this, but a short burst of activity sometimes helps me battle the winter blues. I actually downloaded this Daily Yoga app (it's free!) and they have a few 10 minute sessions that I like.

    1. Thank you Tracy! I think that's a great point. It's easy to just sit around and veg out because that's what I feel like doing when I get home from work but maybe some activity is more what I need. I'll try this as well.
